Shower Crafts

I was worried that without traditional shower games, the party might be a little boring for some, so I suggested maybe having a craft project. I was inspired by the girlie sleepover I threw a few years back. The ladies took the idea and ran with it. The picked up these little denim tote bags and had letters, crystals and other iron-on designs available so everyone could make a personalized bag. How cute?!

I was feeling a little more “baby-centric” so I opted to festoon a hand-me-down onesie I had. I think it turned out pretty good!

I’ve come up with a way to display our Christmas cards that I’m really happy with. I draped garland around the entrance to the Living Room and the cards hang from little clips attached to the garland.

On another crafty note, Cristin was admiring my tree skirt. My secret to a great tree skirt? Go find a festive holiday tablecloth that’s large enough to fit your needs. Cut from one edge to the center and cut a small circle out of the center. Then stitch up the cut edges so it looks neat and doesn’t fray. You can get a much larger skirt for a better price than a traditional tree skirt and there are lots of patterns to choose from.

I love Ruth. Check her out in this short clip of geeky costumes. You’ll be sad if you miss this.

Here’s Amy, fixing my new fabulous Bowie shirt that arrived with a few holes in the seams.

Given the opportunity to climb a rock wall, I always will.
Some fab art I picked up at the Virginia Highlands art festival. Sooo cute!

Sanding project

I bought a belt sander and am using it to refinish a very old cutting board.
This is after I used the 40 grit (super coarse). I still have yet to use the medium and fine grit belts to actually make a nice, finished product.

I feel like Ele. It’s been just over 12 months and I finally finished my scrapbook from my trip to Colombia in February 2006.

It’s so strange. I can remember it like it was yesterday, but it also feels years away. It’s hard to believe it’s only been 12 months. I’m so sad I haven’t been able to see my friend Alba since then. I wish she could move to the states. We have such a good time together. I wish I could go back to Colombia and explore more of the country with her, and I wish I could take Dave and show him everything I saw while I was there. *Sigh*

At least I have these great pictures to look back on!

Busy Weekend

I had a very productive Saturday! I balanced the checking and Visa accounts, filed a huge stack of paperwork (which took hours, really), mailed a few late Christmas cards, finished my laundry, washed all the sheets and remade both beds, washed all the towels, picked up some more litter, got Dave’s birthday prezzies, changed the cat litter pails, ran some errands, and got some of those shredder lubricant pages from Staples.

My mom came over on Saturday night. She added a few decorative pillows to the pillow arrangement of our bed. These go with the picture she gave me as a Christmas present - I’ll show you that in a separate post. We ordered pizza from Pizza Hut, yum, and looked through some of my scrapbooks before we watched our girlie movie, “Shall We Dance?” It was a nice night!

I also gave her her Christmas present, two pairs of “Thai fisherman’s shorts.” She loved them! I was so glad, I thought she’d love them as lounge pants. I’m sure she’s going to start wearing them out of the house next!
This morning, we had breakfast and then we worked on an art project. We painted wooden letters and affixed magnets to the backs to make a Monday through Friday to-do list on our magnetic board, which is in fact the door to our garage. I think everything turned out very well. We also made a D and a Q magnet for Dave and I. I made the bottle-cap magnets as a gift for Amy, who is arriving on Friday.
I don’t know how it ever got to be so late in the day. Somewhere between breakfast and 5 PM we killed a bottle of champagne. :) Oh, and I finished my angles puzzle, very tricky.
